Indian Spiced Cashews

Indian Spiced Cashews make the perfect choice when those savoury cravings hit!

One of the questions I ask during my consults is “Do you experience any cravings?” One of the common answers to that question is chips/potato crisps. Like many of the questions I ask this helps me understand what it is your body might need.

Carbs = energy. So a common reason as to why you may be craving a carby-style snack is due to a drop in blood sugar. The trick here is not to spike your blood sugar, otherwise you will have a hard time getting off that rollercoaster.

This is where cashews are a great alternative. Cashews have a higher carb content than other nuts but balance this out with a good dose of protein + healthy fats.

For the ladies, if this carb craving hits you premenstrually I would highly recommend including these.

Cashews are a good source of magnesium, iron + zinc, all minerals needed in the lead up to our menses.

And the spices…

The spices used in this recipe not only taste amazing they contain great properties to help our bodies function and thrive. Cumin + turmeric help with digestion + cinnamon is great for blood sugar control.

This little snack idea is the perfect alternative to reaching for a bag of crisps. Make a big batch and have them on hand for when your chip cravings hit.

What do I need?
  • 1 cup of Natural Cashews

  • 1 Tablespoon of Coconut Oil

  • 1/4 Teaspoon of Cumin, ground

  • 1/4 Teaspoon of All Spice

  • 1/4 Teaspoon of Paprika

  • 1/4 Teaspoon of Cinnamon

If you don’t want to make your own spice mix, see below for my cheat.

Let’s Do This!

1. Combine spices in a small bowl and season with salt and pepper.

2. Melt coconut oil in a non-stick frypan over medium heat.

3. Add cashews, toss around to ensure the cashews are well coated.

4. Add combined spices to pan again toss cashews to ensure they are well coated.

5. Cook until cashews begin to brown and the fragrance is released from the spices.

6. Cool and eat. (Or store away in an airtight container for snacking later)

Serves 4

This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled if you want to make a big batch. You may need to cook them in a couple of batches if you are increasing your batch.
