This week we are wrapping up Skin + Gut Health Month with looking at the link between the immune system, leaky gut and the development + severity of Eczema.
Eczema is referred to as an idiopathic response to a stressor. What that means is that the cause or the condition has a spontaneous origin. Due to this what is actually causing the eczema can be difficult to identify quickly.
There is however a very strong link between the gut + development of the immune system. And with the onset of Eczema predominately in children under the age of 5 early development of the microbiome is of upmost importance.
There is a lot of talk in this one regarding food intolerance’s and allergies. You will find a lot of helpful advice if you are dealing with these challenges. I have also put together a couple of cookbooks that have some of my favourite recipes aimed at allowing you to enjoy delicious food even if you are following a restictive diet. You can grab (free) copies of these below
In this chat we talk about

Quotes that made me hum…
Eczema is what we refer to as an idiopathic response to a stressor. What that means is that the cause or the condition has a spontaneous origin. Due to this what is actually causing the eczema can be difficult to identify quickly.
Eczema sufferers are commonly born with a significant Th2 dominant immune system.
Researchers have firmly established that people with eczema have a Th2 dominant immune system and suppressed Th1 responses, which contributes to developing food sensitivities and allergies
One of the environmental triggers of Eczema is food. In fact up to 30% off skin symptoms are triggered by food.
Leaky gut is when the walls of your intestine begin to break down or seperate, creating little holes which allow large protein molecules to escape through and enter the body. Now because the body knows that these molecules are not meant to be on the outside of the gut the immune system sees them as an invader. What do you do with any invaders? You mount an attack. That is exactly what the immune system does.
